Ordinary people, at mid-distance, become found ‘subjects’ stuck in a moment of time, rather than stationary, found ‘objects’. Timing is an important element in capturing images in chaotic urban settings. Expressed in painterly moments recorded in saturated color and dramatic light, pictures such as STANDPOINT and SIDE ENTRANCE are reminiscent of the soft realism found in Edward Hopper paintings.
WATER INTO WATER adds another layer of art history by presenting a reflected, inverted subject, referencing George Baselitz’s upside-down images of the 1970’s.
