Day Ghosts are created with a cooler, translucent light. Here the mid-level camera records figure and shadow quite differently from one another. Body motion, ‘found’ light, and the interaction of forms in these accidental moments, create a visual story. Faded color and blurred motion add a gauzy, graphic quality. The images are of energetic spirits; walking, shopping, strolling, or carrying. The pictures express the radiance that can be found in these randomly encountered moments.
Both subjects in FIREFLY and MIAMI BEACH HULA HOOP GIRL, perform a repetitive motion recorded in a similar way. Controlled blur, selective focus and highlighting create a mood of memory rather than reality. The individual is de-personalized in the blur so that the viewer can project themselves into the blank.
In GHOST SHOPPER and CALYPSO, the figures are secondary to the color and movement in the form of the clothing, which dominates these shoppers’ minds.
